Apple is friendly

Three days ago my son smashed his 2-months old MacBook Pro ...

He forgot to close the pocket on his Dakine backpack - and this has a complete faulty design. The notebook pocket opens sideways! So the notebook falls from 1.5 m direct on the edge.

The aluminum unibody case is massively damaged - the ethernet port can no more be used. The display is no more centered ideally. But these are the only damages! The machine is fully working.

A repair would be very expensive. A complete new body including for the display is needed. All the electronics has to be disassembled and build into the new case. So we decided to use the MacBook with the damaged body.

We had purchased the machine with a 3 years protection plan, which of course doesn't cover this self-inflicted issue. But this plan is now obsolete, because any future damage on the electronic would be uncovered as well.

I called apple care. With a three minute phone call they agreed to cancel the 3 year protection plan now. They will pay back the $200 to us. I think this is friendly and therefore i mention it here.

By the way - if I lived in USA - I would try to fine Dakine for this stupid backpack design.
